One of the leading Male Choirs in the country will be in concert at St Ives Parish Church on Saturday June 23rd. Bath Male Choir reached the finals of the popular BBC Last Choir Standing series singing to an audience of millions across the UK. Since that time the programme has been screened worldwide adding supporters from Australia and South Africa.
Founder Conductor is Grenville Jones who leads a number of other music projects. He is also the founder of a charity called Golden-Oldies which brings music and laughter to hundreds of elderly people across England and Wales. Last November he worked with Gareth Malone on the BBC Children In Need night and is also the only UK member of a European Union Research study looking at how music can engage people living in isolation.
Bath Male Choir have sung around Europe since achieving fame on Last Choir Standing. In 2010, they visited France singing to a sell-out audience and 8 standing ovations.
Their repertoire includes modern pieces as well as some traditional male choir items. They have raised thousands of pounds for charities singing for Help for Heroes in Bath Abbey and Wells Cathedral and the National Prostate Cancer Society at their celebrity Christmas concerts in St John’s Smith Square, London. Concerts in Bath have seen them on stage with Aled Jones, Hayley Westenra and Lee Mead.
Guest artist for the St Ives Parish Concert will be talented young Soprano Laura Nicholas. Laura’s roots are in Penzance, Cornwall, where her musical talent took her to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. She competed successfully at the Cornwall County Music Festivals winning many trophies.
The concert at St Ives Parish Church starts at 7.30pm, tickets are priced £7.50
